Premmie Hero Award Winner 2015

For almost 6 years, Trish has selflessly lent her heart and a warm embrace to many families who have given birth too soon.  In 2010, Trish established the Facebook group ‘Our Lil Fighters’ after the early arrival of her son Daniel, who was born at 32 weeks weighing 800 grams. Trish felt that there were limited services in her local area of Blacktown so she set out to make a difference and give families a place to talk and share stories.

Trish has been a great supporter of many charities and has been known to raise money either through an online auction or by setting herself personal challenges to raise funds and awareness. She has previously dyed her LONG hair green in support of L’il Aussie Prems annual ‘Wear Green for Premmies’ event and inked herself in the name of charity. Trish has been the brainchild behind both challenges and has gained lots of support during each campaign with other mums even joining her ‘Ink for Prems’ team in 2014.

Over the years, Trish has collected items suitable for mums and bubs and delivered between 10-15 gift packages all over the world to support families with a baby in hospital. She has recently supported a mother through the loss of her twin babies. She has been changed by the experience and just wishes her arms were long enough to wrap around every family in Australia who has sadly experienced neonatal loss. She is currently writing a booklet to provide easy read information for siblings who are affected by the early arrival of a family member. As a single mum to three children, she understands the vulnerability and how difficult it can be for siblings with a newborn brother or sister in the NICU and mum needing to spend time away from home to care for their new sibling in hospital.

Trish joined the committee of the National Premmie Foundation as a volunteer 2 years ago and has played a vital role in helping to co-ordinate World Prematurity Day in Australia during her tenure as Secretary.  Trish has personally received a lot of support herself from many new found friends in the community and was humbled by the news of her daughter’s nomination for our award.

Congratulations to Trish and thank you!
