Our annual ‘Wear Green for Premmies’ campaign is a day where thousands of people wear green to show their support of the 25,000 babies born prematurely in Australia each year. Part of the proceeds from last year’s event were used to purchase and donate equipment to 2 Special Care Nurseries and 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Units.
In 2014, the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, was one of the four hospitals chosen as recipients of these annual donations. We received ‘wish lists’ from each of the four nurseries to help assist in the purchase of equipment relevant to the needs of each hospital.
In November, our Foundation kindly donated a $2,500 motorized recliner chair to the Women’s NISC unit. The chair is designed to support kangaroo care, and to help improve the NISC experience for the parents and the many neonates currently admitted into the hospitals care.
Parents never forget the first time medical staff place their tiny baby on their chest for a kangaroo cuddle. The warmth of their skin and the feeling of their heartbeat is so calming and reassuring whilst in the NISC environment. This donation is vital for the Women’s NISC in providing parents with additional chair accessibility so that they can spend more quality time with their newborns.
Our donations of course would not have been possible without the incredible efforts of those families, friends, hospitals, businesses and supporters who fundraised in support of our event. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your amazing efforts to support not only our Foundation, but the hospitals that provide the amazing care for our precious children born too soon.
This final handover, concludes our 2014 Wear Green for Premmies equipment donations to each of the four hospitals.
