Sophie Smith is Australia’s First Premmie Hero Award Winner.
Sophie is the mum of triplet sons Henry, Jasper and Evan born prematurely in 2006 and who sadly lost their fight for life. To honour their memory Sophie and her husband Ash have together raised more than $250,000 to purchase life saving humidicribs for the Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick.
In the first year that Sophie & Ash organised a team for the half marathon and they had gathered a team of 98 runners and raised over $80,000. Together they have now raised a phenomenal amount for the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Hospital for Women.
Sophie gave birth to a little boy in 2008, Owen, whom brings her and Ash unimaginable joy each day but amazingly Sophie still finds the time to busily organise this years run on the 17th May 2009. They have 107 runners so far and hope to raise enough for life-saving monitors & equipment for the smallest of premature babies.
Congratulations Sophie and thank you.
Update: Since Sophie won our award, her team have now raised over $1 million in memory of her triplet boys. If you would like to join her team in running for premature babies please visit her website www.runningforprematurebabies.com.
