Our new forum is online and LIVE!

After World Prematurity Day we were hard at work transferring all the data from our old forum to the new vBulletin software. We moved over 4,000 images, almost 340,000 forum posts, avatars, signatures & all our members data. Everything transferred over smoothly and the forum was back online hours before we anticipated.

The vBulletin software is quite different to our old forum (phpBB3). There are endless options and almost infinite possibilities. The software is much more powerful so we are all learning as we go along with what options are available. Thanks to the members for supporting each other with the new features and tricks on how specific options work. Our live chatroom is back and we have a fantastic new calendar to keep track of birthdays.

We LOVE the new forum and invite you to take a look around. A very special THANK YOU to Earlybirds for sponsoring our new forum software. Lynda and the Earlybirds team are dedicated to supporting all premmie support groups and we are extremely grateful for their generosity towards our community.

Visit our forum and chat with families who truly understand the journey from hospital & beyond.

Premmie Gift of Hope Journal

Now Available

L’il Aussie Prems worked alongside Yasminah’s Gift of Hope to create a unique “Premmie Gift of Hope” Journal.

If you would like a copy of our journal for your child’s keepsake box, they are now available through our online shop. The journal price covers the printing & postage costs associated to re-produce further journals.

We have been working together for the past 12 months to create these journals for parents to record their babies journey whilst they are on the rollercoaster ride after giving birth prematurely. Our journals are specifically designed to be placed inside the pocket of your child’s record book given to you at the hospital.

Included in the Premmie Gift Of Hope Journal;

  • A5 in size
  • 44 page soft cover, full colour journal
  • Helpful articles relating to premature birth
  • Special page to record details of your child’s birth
  • Journal pages to record details

Premmie of the Month

Name: Ronan

Where was Ronan born? Monash Medical Centre, VIC

What was his gestation? 27+3 weeks gestation

What was his birth weight? 1140 grams

How long was he in hospital? He was in hospital for 110 days (12.5 weeks)

How was his journey whilst in hospital (any complications)? He had the text book premmie complications ie: CLD which saw him on oxygen for quite some time, PDA which finally closed at 6 weeks, phototherapy & 2 blood transfusions. He also had a double hernia which was operated on before he left the hospital.

Does Ronan have any ongoing health issues?

Health wise he is as strong as an ox! We have been super lucky in the health department. He has only had a handful of chest infections since he was born. Developmentally he is still behind. He has Sensory Processing Disorder & 12-18 month speech delay. He has been attending weekly early intervention sessions for the past 4 years to help him with self regulation due to his sensory complications. He also attends speech therapy once a month. In October he had a hearing follow up appointment & the results showed that he has a 30% hearing loss due to fluid. He is now waiting for his 2nd round of gromments early in the new year. He weighs approx 19.5kgs and is 3/4 of my own height! We are amazed everyday with how much he is growing..

How old is Ronan now? He turns 6 years old in March 2012

What has been your proudest moment since Ronan was born? Gosh there are so many. As a mum every moment is precious and of course makes you proud. He is starting school in 2012 and i think the way that he has handled all the transition days over the past few months has made me realise just how quickly my little man is growing up. His teacher was really pleased with his progress and mentioned what a delightful & happy boy he was. He has an amazingly bright, exciting and fun year coming up in 2012 and we can’t wait to share it with him.

Ronan is the inspiration behind the creation of L’il Aussie Prems. He was super excited to see himself in our December newsletter!

Special thanks to our wonderful website sponsors for their continued support of our premmie community throughout 2011.
