Wear Green For Prems – Event

On 6 April, 19,364 Facebook users wore green clothing or purchased green wristbands to publicly recognise the struggle of premature babies and their families.

Over 2,000 wristbands were sold through our website in four weeks, with international orders from Ireland, United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Wristbands were designed by our forum members. Sales of wristbands enabled us to donate $2,300 to five non-profit/charities which included Yasminah’s Gift of Hope, Sewing Mummy, Backpack 4 Aussie Kids, C.H.I.L.D & Heartfelt.

It was an amazing day with photos being shared all throughout Facebook, even we couldn’t keep up. Thank you to everyone who participated. The event far exceeded our expectations and we will be running the online event each year.

We have a Facebook page dedicated to our “Green for Prems” event. If you wish to be kept up to date you can join our page.

Premmie of the Month – April 2011

Name: Saphire

Where was Saphire born? Mater Mothers, Brisbane

What was her gestation? 28 + 6 weeks

What was her birth weight? 810grams

How old is she now? 15 months

What do you remember most about her time in hospital? How hard she fought, every day, simply just to breathe. I will never forget the doctor giving her CPR when she was 6 weeks old, everytime she turned a corner, I was the proudest mummy around.

Does Saphire have any ongoing health issues?

Thankfully none at all, she is such a trooper! Even though she has CLD she never gets sick.

What has been your proudest moment since Saphire came home? There have been heaps, probably the best was her 1st Birthday. Seeing her enjoyng herself that day with all her family around her was such a contrast to that day a year before when we didnt even know if she would make it. We had all made it through the first year in one piece (just!)
