Adrienne is our 2nd Runner Up for the 2015 Premmie Hero Volunteer Awards.
For the past four years, Adrienne has volunteered her time and professional photography skills as part of the Australian charity, Heartfelt. She is one of many volunteers who assist the charity by providing free photography sessions to families who have experienced stillbirth, premature birth or have children with serious and terminal illness.
Adrienne liaises directly with families or hospitals that have requested the services that Heartfelt provide.
Despite the nearest hospital being a 45-minute drive away, Adrienne has attended over 230 sessions. Walking into a family’s most devastating moments to create beautiful, lasting memories for grieving parents, she frequently goes above and beyond, travelling 8 hours to help those in need or by visiting up to four different hospitals in a single day, attending as many as 9 families in nine days.
Through her lens she catches a family’s first meeting, cuddles, tears and last goodbyes. She captures the pain, grief and love of those moments, memorialising them for families who’ve suffered unspeakable loss.
She’s been there for families regardless of the time, sometimes spending hours with them during the most intimate of journeys. Using sensitivity to allow them to grieve in their own way as their infant’s medical care is withdrawn. She has heartbreakingly assisted with picking up grieving mothers off the floor, paralysed in grief to help create memories for them and their families.
She’s worked through her own pain, having fractured her ankle during a session this past January.
Along with the photography sessions themselves, Adrienne retouches and edits the photos of other photographers to ensure each family receives touching and sharable images that honour their baby. She presents Heartfelt’s services to medical professionals, runs lighting workshops, mentors other photographers from all over the country and arranges co-members to visit NICU’s in December to take special Christmas photos for families.
Adrienne continues to photograph situations that, for most people, are unimaginable. Bringing sensitivity to capture the raw emotions and heartfelt moments that each family will cherish for a lifetime. She has been nominated for our award by one of the many NICU families she’s touched with the power of her camera.
Congratulations to Adrienne and thank you!
