We were thrilled to launch L’il Appers, our iPad support program to help connect families to our online support services whilst in a hospital.
In Australia, over 45,000 babies each year require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN). The program is designed to connect parents through our forum app, website and social media pages. The program will be beneficial for mums admitted into the hospital’s care, specifically while on bed rest due to pregnancy complications, parents who have given birth prematurely or parents have a new baby that requires additional care after birth.
In August 2014, we donated two iPad’s to our friends at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Melbourne to directly assist these families and to officially launch the program.
Many mums are admitted to St Vincent’s Private Hospital maternity ward for antenatal care prior to their baby’s due date, often mums to be are finding themselves spending days or months in the hospital on bed rest due to the risk of early delivery of their unborn baby. Our L’il Appers program ensures that mums have somewhere to turn for additional support.
Support is vital for a positive outlook and mental health during both the pregnancy and the days following on from birth. Our unique project has been well received by their maternity staff, special care nursery staff and patients. Their hospital was thrilled to be the first hospital in Australia to trial the program for 3 months and we now look forward to expanding our iPad service in their hospital throughout 2015.
We are focused on expanding our L’il Appers Support Program into other maternity units, NICU and SCN’s throughout Australia over the next twelve months. If you know a hospital which will benefit from our program, please let us know via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
