Green for Premmies Wrap Up 2016

What an incredible day we all had wearing green on the 13th April!! Hundreds of photos were submitted on social media by families, hospitals, supporters and workplaces from around the nation all wearing green to show their support. An incredible effort from everyone who celebrated the day and participated in raising awareness of premature birth and joined in the discussions on our Facebook page.

This year we had many hospitals, families, child care centres and businesses across the nation participated by wearing green and encouraging donations in their stores which is just fantastic. They all celebrated to raise awareness of the day by arranging media articles in their local papers, baked incredible cakes with our cute logo, held a ‘green’ day for customers and held morning teas for parents and children.

Thank you to everyone who fundraised online, organised an event, sold cupcakes, wristbands, made an online donation or placed a coin in a donation tin, purchased our merchandise, shared their story with media publications and those who supported our event from afar. We extend our gratitude to the knitting, crocheting and sewing communities for sending over 1,500 green beanies to us throughout the year for our ‘green’ event bags which were provided to 1,500 families with a baby currently in NICU/SCN. We are also very grateful to our patrons and event sponsors, Huggies Australia, Britax and Waterwipes Australia for their support this year.

A special thank you to our friends at St Vincent’s Private Hospital (Melbourne), who once again kindly supported our event by hosting a very yummy lunch. Committee members, Andrena and Julia thoroughly enjoyed meeting those who attended.

This year, Ava Bray was premmie at the forefront of our campaign. Her smile and fighting spirit inspired the whole of Australia and we thank the Bray family for allowing us to share their special little girl with the community. Thank you also to Rikki-Lee from Pregnant Memories by Rikki-Lee for donating her photography skills and providing us with the beautiful images of Ava for our 2016 campaign. Keep an eye out for our announcement towards the end of the year as we open submissions once again to find the ‘smile’ behind our 2017 campaign.

From all of your incredible fundraising efforts, an amazing $5,000 has been allocated towards the purchase of much-needed equipment for this year’s chosen hospitals who are; Mater Hospital Rockhampton (SCN), St Vincent’s Private Hospital (SCN), John Hunter Hospital (NICU) and Women’s & Children’s Hospital (NICU). The items being donated are items from their ‘wish lists’ provided to our committee. Through your kind generosity, it continues to allow us to not only give back to these nurseries but also provides our Foundation with funds to continue making a difference over the next twelve months. We will be sharing news of our hospital donations in the coming months so keep an eye out.

Our annual day continues to be a wonderful success each year because of the amazing support from everyone in our community. Through social media alone, in the lead up to and on the day, we reached millions of users.  We also kicked off our inaugural #foot4prems campaign this year and it literally went ‘viral’ all over the world not only on social media but also on television and radio in the USA, Korea, Spain and France just to name a few! Thank you to everyone who shared their story, took part in our #foot4prems campaign, shared our images, our updates and announcements because together, we helped to educate the community, raised awareness of premature birth and celebrated the lives of our precious children.

It is always a very busy 6 months lead up for our dedicated committee with planning our event and whilst the event is over for another year, we stand together incredibly proud and look forward to wearing green next year in 2017, so be sure to pen the date in your calendar for next year once we announce it.

Once again, thank you for celebrating alongside our organisation.
