What an incredible day we all had getting our green on in April!! Hundreds of photos were submitted on social media by families, hospitals, supporters and workplaces from around the nation all wearing green to show their support. An incredible effort from everyone who celebrated the day and participated in raising awareness of premature birth and joined in the discussions on our Facebook page.

This year, many hospitals and child care centres across the nation participated by wearing green which is just fantastic. They all celebrated to raise awareness of the day by arranging media articles in their local papers, baked incredible cakes or cookies with our cute logo and held morning teas for their parents and children.

Thank you to everyone who fundraised online, organised an event, sold cupcakes, wristbands, made an online donation or placed a coin in a donation tin, purchased our merchandise, shared their story with media publications and those who supported our event from a far. We extend our gratitude to the knitting, crocheting and sewing communities for sending over 950 green beanies to us for our ‘green’ event bags which were provided to 1,500 families with a baby currently in NICU/SCN. We are also very grateful to our patrons and event sponsors, Huggies Australia, Angelcare and Waterwipes Australia for their support this year.

A special thank you to our friends at St Vincent’s Private Hospital (Melbourne), who once again kindly supported our event by hosting a very yummy lunch. Committee members, Andrena and Carolyn thoroughly enjoyed the day and meeting those who attended.

This year, Rachel Crowther was our first ever female premmie at the front of our campaign. When Rachel saw a photo of our green event packs being sent to hospitals, she squealed and cheered and said “my happy face will make sick babies like me happier”. Her smile and fighting spirit inspired the whole of Australia and we thank the Crowther family for allowing us to share their special little girl with the community. Thank you also to Mandii from Xanthe Photography for donating her photography skills and providing us with the beautiful images of Rachel for our 2015 campaign. Keep an eye out for our announcement in a few months as submissions open once again to find the ‘smile’ behind our 2016 campaign.

From all of your incredible fundraising efforts, an amazing $5,000 has been allocated towards the purchase of much needed equipment for this years chosen hospitals who are; Royal Hobart Hospital, King Edward Memorial Hospital, Wagga Wagga Base and Lismore Base Hospitals. The items being donated are items from their ‘wish lists’ provided to our committee. Through your kind generosity, it continues to allow us to not only give back to these nurseries but also provides our Foundation with funds to continue making a difference over the next twelve months. We will be sharing news of our hospital donations in the coming months so keep an eye out.

Our annual day continues to be a wonderful success each year because of the amazing support from everyone in our community. Through social media alone, in the lead up to and on the day, we reached over 9 million users. Thank you to everyone who shared their story, shared our photos, shared our updates and announcements because together, we helped to educate the community, raise awareness of premature birth and celebrate the lives of our precious children.

It is always a very busy 6 months lead up for our dedicated committee with planning our event and whilst the event is over for another year, we stand together incredibly proud and look forward to wearing green next year on Wednesday, 13th April 2016, so be sure to pen the date in your calendar for next year.

Please view the amazing photos below of families, friends, hospitals, businesses and supporters celebrating the day in 2015.
