Our annual ‘Wear Green for Premmies’ campaign is a day where thousands of people wear green to show their support of the 25,000 babies born prematurely in Australia each year. Part of the proceeds from last year’s event were used to purchase and donate equipment to 2 Special Care Nurseries and 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Units.
In early September, Our Foundation kindly donated an Astodia Diaphanoscope to Monash Children’s Dandenong Hospital Special Care Nursery with the attendance from two of our committee members, Julia Toivonen and Jenny Bradley for our donation handover to their incredible staff.
The donation will help assist medical staff to locate blood vessels easily for safe puncture and make it possible to identify structures filled with air or liquid deep under the skin surface. In cases of difficult vessel conditions which are most common for premature babies, the device will be a valuable contribution to the careful treatment of Dandenong’s smallest patients. This is a great piece of technology that will help the staff to visualise tiny veins. It will help the difficult procedure of IV cannulation to be efficient and less traumatic for the babies.
This year, the Special Care Nursery at Monash Children’s Dandenong Hospital in Victoria is one of the four hospitals chosen as recipients of our annual donations. We have received ‘wish lists’ from each of the four nurseries to help assist our Foundation in purchasing equipment relevant to the needs of each hospital.
Our Foundation will be donating up to $7,000 towards the purchase of equipment between the four nurseries from these incredible fundraising efforts in April 2014. We are currently liasing with the Royal Women’s Hospital (VIC) to finalise their donation as the last recipient of this years donations.
These donations of course would not have been possible without the incredible efforts of those families, friends, hospitals, businesses and supporters who fundraised in support of our event. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your amazing efforts to support not only our Foundation, but the hospitals that provide the amazing care for our precious children born too soon.
We will provide further updates of our donations to the other 2014 recipients soon.
