Arielle’s Birth Story ~ Born at 35 Weeks

I had an smooth pregnancy. No morning sickness and felt great up until I found out at 27 weeks that I had gestational diabetes.  I was able to control it by cutting out the bulk of sugar thankfully.

I had an ultrasound at 30 weeks and was told that my daughter was in the breech position (she loved having her head in my rib). At 32 weeks i was told that if she does not turn by week 36, we would be talking about a c-section at my next appointment.

At 35 +3 weeks I notice my feet were swelling but thought nothing of it. The next day my left leg was really swollen but i just put my legs up and rested. The following day, both of my legs were swollen. The following day after work, I went to the doctors only to be told that I had pre-eclampsia. I was told that I was going to be admitted to the Ballarat Base Hospital for monitoring and then i would be induced in a couple of weeks.

Once i was released from hospital, the doctors ran some tests. It turned out that it was a lot worse than anticipated. I was at the hospital for only an hour and a half and at 8:15pm my beautiful daughter was born at 35+6 weeks on the 12th August 2013.

Arielle went to the special care nursery to be monitored and was placed inside humidicrib, on oxygen for a couple of hours and a drip for 2 days. Afterwards, we were transferred back to my home town hospital and were in their special care nursery for a further 8 days. We were able to go home on the 22 August 2013.

Arielle is going very well and now weighs around 4220 grams.
